The United States Marshal Service in New Mexico, Task Force Officers (TFOs) assigned to the Marshals Service South West Investigative Fugitive Team (SWIFT) Taskforce, New Mexico Department of Corrections Security Threat and Intelligence Unit (STIU) Officers, Task Force Officers with the Department of Homeland Security Border Enforcement Security Team (B.E.S.T.), Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, and Albuquerque Police Department Officers arrested Kevin Rangel for an outstanding warrant for violating his conditions of probation and new charges of felon in possession of a firearm, and possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.
Deputies and TFO’s served an arrest warrant on Rangel in the south valley near Albuquerque in Bernalillo County and subsequent to his arrest executed a search warrant on the address where they located and seized 9 ounces of methamphetamine, 6 ounces of heroin, and 3 firearms. Rangel has a lengthy and violent history, and this isn’t his first arrest by the U.S. Marshals Service in NM. In 2007 Rangel was a fugitive and lead authorities on a high speed chase that ended in a SWAT standoff.
Chief Deputy United States Marshal Alex Ramos commented on this arrest by saying “The members of SWIFT and those that partner with SWIFT will continue to work to make our communities a safer place by taking dangerous criminals off of the street.”
